At GŪD Essence, we believe language matters. For too long, the cannabis conversation has been boxed into two words: marijuana and hemp. While they’re familiar, they also limit how people understand the plant — and what it can truly do.
Why the words don’t tell the whole story
“Marijuana” carries decades of stigma. “Hemp” is often seen as separate, only for textiles, rope, or industrial uses. But both words miss the bigger picture: cannabis is one plant, with a spectrum of compounds that interact with our bodies in powerful ways.
The real story: cannabinoids + the endocannabinoid system
Inside cannabis are more than 100 cannabinoids — CBD, THC, CBG, CBN, THCV, and many more. These aren’t just buzzwords. They connect with the endocannabinoid system in our bodies, which helps regulate sleep, mood, memory, appetite, and immunity. When we reduce cannabis to just “marijuana” or “hemp,” we erase the science and the opportunity for people to really understand how this plant works with us.
Why the Farm Bill opened more doors than state laws
Here’s the irony: the 2018 Farm Bill, by legalizing hemp under 0.3% THC, actually created more room for innovation than many state cannabis programs. Thanks to that bill, consumers nationwide have been able to explore cannabinoids like CBD or CBG in wellness products, beverages, and even pet care — while in some states, regulated cannabis programs remain stuck in narrow definitions.
Where GŪD Essence fits in
Our mission at GŪD Essence is to shift the conversation. We’re here to go beyond outdated labels and bring people into the full spectrum of cannabis — educating on cannabinoids, breaking down the science of the endocannabinoid system, and making space for new applications in health, wellness, and culture.
Because cannabis isn’t just “marijuana” or “hemp.” It’s a plant with endless possibilities, and it’s time we talk about it that way.
