Cannabis Retailer GŪD Essence Planned For Closed Burger King
GŪD Essence is transforming a shuttered Burger King in downtown Jacksonville into a new dispensary location.
A Miami-based cannabis retailer is transforming a long-shuttered Burger King in downtown Jacksonville into a new dispensary location. GŪD Essence obtained demolition permits in September 2025 to begin interior work on the 4,111-square-foot building at 210 E. State Street, with an anticipated opening in early 2026.
CEO Jasmine Johnson stated the company views this site as an opportunity to "revitalize an existing building and bring new life to the urban core." She emphasized that downtown represents "a growing, dynamic community" where the firm intends to establish its first Northeast Florida presence.
GŪD Essence operates as a "cannabis and wellness brand dedicated to cultivating premium products and meaningful community experiences." The organization describes itself as more than a retail outlet, positioning itself as a "cultural movement rooted in education, empowerment, and holistic healing."
Orlando-based Alakai Capital purchased the downtown block for $1.5 million in June 2025. Principal Nick Jones noted Jacksonville's unique position among Florida cities, citing momentum from developments like Gateway Jax and waterfront extensions.
The company's expansion strategy includes opening four flagship locations in Clearwater, Jacksonville, Miami, and Orlando, with Tampa planned for later phases. Johnson outlined ambitious growth targets, aiming for at least 20 dispensaries statewide within two years, pending regulatory approvals.
